Territorial Home in Armory Park, Tucson, for Lease

Armory Park Historic Residential District
After the arrival of the railroad in 1880, the Armory Park Neighborhood grew principally along South Third and Fourth Avenues. Lawyers, judges, politicians, merchants, saloon owners and a variety of other professionals moved into the area.

The railroad heralded an architectural transition in Tucson. Lumber, and other building materials from both coasts, became available. Shingled roofs and wooden porches were added to many of the mud adobe homes. Home builders showed a concern for design and craftsmanship. Variations on Victorian, Queen Anne, and Greek Revival architecture appeared in Armory Park. Later, the mix became known as Territorial style - characterized by wide, deep verandas and high pyramidal roofs to cool occupants living in this Sonoran Desert outpost.
